Imagine...
...you are standing in the boxing ring with just two other people. A referee and your opponent. The bell sounds and now the moment of truth. Are you ready, is the training all done? A true test of your chutzpah, courage, guts, determination and character is about to take place.
Watching you in the crowd will be your family, friends and work colleagues. The noise will be deafening but you will hear nothing as the bell goes and into battle you go, your adrenaline pumping.
This new type of boxing is called ‘White Collar Boxing’ and the story of how this originated is as follows:
Origins
One of the oldest most famous boxing gyms in America is Gleason’s Gym, New York City. The story has it that some years ago two Wall Street business types who both fancied themselves as fighters had a bet on who would be still standing if they went three rounds in the ring at the local boxing gym. They employed trainers and set about preparing for this showdown. The best part of six months later they finally got it on at Gleasons in front of a big crowd of colleagues and friends.
The word spread about these two men that wore suits by day and fought by night, and so, White Collar Boxing was born. It caught on and soon Gleason’s had a queue of white collar warriors stretching back to Brooklyn Bridge all wanting a taste of the action.
